Default Vortech or Whipple?

Any opinions from people who have either?

I can get a Whipple for $3800 to my door or I can get a Vortech for about $800 less + shipping.

Either one is going to give me bettwe power off the line with the nod going to Whipple for that but I would think the Vortech will give me better top end. If they were both the same price I would go Whipple all the way but $800 is kinda of alot.

Truck is in sig.
Ohh, towing doesn't mater to me because either one is going to work great for that since I tow pretty damned good stock.

NM,

I might just go with the ATI since it is not much more than the Vortech and has the intercooler which would be nice next summer in the 115deg heat!!

What is the most boost that anyone here has ran on their stock motor w/ or wo/ injector upgrades?

The ATI kit is 8-9 PSI standard. Can you go higher since it is intercooled?

yep, id go with the procharger. they all have their negative sides, but at least with the procharger you get an intercooler. I know with whipple heat soak is a bitch!

just get a nice d1sc and be done with it pretty much nobody has ran any kind of high boost on here yet and the engine lived to tell the story though (at least as far as i know.) not sure failure was related to improper tuning or the weak internals.

power below 3000rpm with the procharger is fairly close to stock though. 3000+ and the hp curve skyrockets so you may end up wanting a converter afterwards

I know about the converter thing. This truck is a DOG! off the line for sure.

What is the benifit of doing the D1 over the standard? Even if I only plan on running 9psi?

scratch the vortech off your list, between the ati and the whipple i think you need to ask yourself what you are going to do with it?

seems to me the ati will give you prety much nothing most of the time, nothing when you are towing. nothing for everyday driving unless you get into it prety good. the whipple on the other hand gives you power all the time, i can get 4psi of boost at 1100rpm.

now for the ati advantage, it is hard to run a whipple over 6psi because of the heat issues, sounds like the ati will go 9psi prety easy with the intercooler so yes it does pull harder up top, with a stall i think everyone would agree an ATI would win in a drag race.

if your looking to go the fastest in the 1/4mile and win in all out drag races the ati and if your looking for nice gains all the way thru the rpm range(killer towing), then the whipple.

if i were starting from scrach i would go heads and cam, a set of forged pistons and a 150shot of nitrous

the ATI was my choice
It was a simple one INTERCOOLER enough said
I'm running around 9-9.5psi now with no problems the intake temps are very low with this much boost
I'll be tuning in a smaller pully this weekend 3.60 compared to the 4.0 they ship with the kit should be fun
If you wanna get serious with the ATI you will need larger injectors for sure the 8.1L ones i don't think will cut it with more than 10psi of boost
things to take in consideration
new tranny and a stall of some sort
LS1 edit
a good flowing exhaust and headers
and last

Parish Nailed in on the head for differences between the two. I do not think people realize the major differences between the different supercharger systems. I feel the Whipple maxes out and is good for a "fun" truck that will make power and boost right off the bat. I chose the ATI because I have a head and cam kit and wanted it pretty normal docile around town if that is a good way to put it. Its just for fun when I want it and I do not tow much. When you get on it watch out

Get custom tuning and bigger injectors.

Well, its not like you couldn't purchase an aftercooler w/ a Vortech kit, but the ATI kit comes w/ an IC, so thats the 1 plus i'll give ATI. Personally, i like the Vortechs. Heard some better things about their systems (not like either ones are really crappy), that and the instructions tend to be easier, and the customer service are better.

Altho, the ATI setups are self contained cooling systems, as well as have an IC kit along w/ the supercharger...get that one unless you want to do a "custom" Vortech setup w/ an Aftercooler. Im still waiting for a reply from Vortech on the subjet myself..

The Whipple is fine if your looking for good low-mid range power while Vortech and ATI tend to lean more towards performance (racing) and build boost in the mid-upper RPM range.

If I was putting a truck together that would see a little track time but it's main use would be a daily driver/tow vehicle I would go with the Whipple (did this with my 8.1 Suburban). If your looking to post some low ETs Vortech or ATI would be the way to go. As noted ATI comes with intercoolers. Vortech currently doesn't have a truck kit with the Aftercooler but you may be able to make this work. The programming would also have to be changed to go along with the Aftercooler.
