Vortec Max aftermarket cam questions
#1
I am looking at getting a truck soon, most likely an 07 or later VMax. I wanted to do a cam swap with the usual bolt ons and I was hoping to hear from some of you guys who have already done this. Any advice? Im a beginner when it comes to these Vmaxs.
I also have a few questions:
I know comp cams makes a kit for the 07 Vortec Max that has VVT. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? Hp gains/issues/install etc.
I havent seen any kits for the 08 and up models with AFM, but I think I could just replace the lifters, cam, springs, pushrods and timing chain. Has anyone ripped out all the DOD crap on their Vmax? Any advice? What were your gains?
My last question is about the transmissions in these trucks. How are they holding up with a cammed and bolt on motor? Are the torque converters frying up? Does anyone know how much power can safely be pushed through?
I really dont want to have to open up/replace the transmission for cam and bolt on mods.
Sorry for the long post and noobish questions, haven't hotrodded a DOD motor yet!
