Volant copied our ram air mod
#1
I just got my new jcwhitney catalog and found a new cold air intake from volant. It seem they've been paying attention to what folks have been doing with their factory boxes because their new unit is along the same lines. It's got a tube coming out of the bottom that goes down to an intake that's mounted behind the tow hook opening. Their tube to the tb even has a baffle like the factory unit to control intake noise. Now for the funny part, jcwhitney lists it for the low, low price of $399.95. I hope they include a tube of vaseline for the new owner to help ease the pain after they realize they just got screwed. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> I'll stick with my $20 home made system, thank you very much.

I'm one of those that bent over and spent $300 on that Volant system, albeit mine doens't have the snorkel that goes down to the towhook to suck in air.
The reason why I spent the money and didn't HACK up my stock airbox is because in 3 years I plan on trading the turck in or selling it for the newest and greatest Vortec 8100, so I'd like to turn it completely back to stock.
On top of which, I like the look, the sound, and the performance that the Volant gave me as opposed to destroying my sh*tty factory unit.
So take those comments with a bottle of vaseline!!!

Dude you could have bought a used air box to hack up for like 20 bucks if you looked around a bit, but Volant is one of the best looking intakes. I, too was wondering why they put the '*******' on the new ram air volant.

On top of which, I didn't like the look of the stock airbox and didn't like the small tube from the airbox to the TB. I've got 496 cubes to feed and that stock system was simply a cork no matter what you do short of actually attaching the air filter to the TB itself.
No matter how good it looks. I remember when the LS1 came out and everyone was doing the home made "hack" jobs on their air bellows and factory airlid. I on the other hand went the professional route and bought a lid for my '98.
Why is it hard for some to comprehend that someone wants to spend on something nice and not butcher a stock unit.

they dont want to spend several hundred bucks on a lid or intake etc.
it all depends on a persons goals in performance looks etc. there are some people on here that made their own intake that looks good, like oxidizr, and works well too.
it all boils down to the money a person wants to spend for more power.
