Default Volant better than stock Radix intake?

Wouldn't mind getting some more air to my Radix. Looking at the Volant #15953 and wondering if it would be better than the stock box, where Magnuson simply replaced the stock filter with a K&N. Has anyone had a Radix install, then gone to a Volant setup and seen a difference?

I also see Volant offers an "Add-On Scoop" that goes to the bottom of the vehicle where I now have a tow hook. Has anyone used this, and is there a difference? I'm also wondering if I could just get the add-on scoop and attach it to my stock box by drilling a hole in the bottom of it...

I had the Volant, then added the RADIX. Everything work just fine. It's a tight fit, but it works out OK.

Did you use the Volant intake tube on your Radix input or revert back to the stock tube? Do you have the add-on scoop?

I have the Volant Air induction system, which I like for my normally aspirated 6.0 L LQ4.

Now, for a couple of cautions. The outside (curb side) end of the Volant is almost completely open. The RADIX installation instructions have the installer to fill the fender cavity with a foam sound barrier so that the induction air sounds are muted somewhat before they enter the passenger compartment. Therefore, the Volant will have a considerable sound level increase in my opinion (at least under half to full throttle operation). Now the second caution. Induction air (like electricity, water, people, and most things) takes the path of least resistance. Since the end of the Volant air box is completely open, very little ram air effect will result. Additionally, ram air rise (manifold absolute pressure increase due to speed) is virtually non-exist below 80 to 100 MPH. I am an engineer with a Commercial Pilot's License and I know that it just doesn't happen at normal automotive speeds.

I'm with Steve, the ram air just doesn't seem like it would be anything more than a gemic to me. I don't know about the sound levels though .. I never put that foam **** in my fender. I can tell you though, my IAT are about 40* above ambeint, but that's on the RADIX's intake mounted temp sensor, after the blower, so they should be warmer.

Pretty much anything's going to be better than that OE intake box. Heck, I'd just hack the bottom off of if...cheap flow. Seriously, more airflow and it's free...

Oh, and how's "Ram-Air" going to work on a forced induction setup? That's right, it won't.

I forgot to mention, the Volant intake tube is made for a stock truck. On the stock truck the intake is in the middle of the manifold where on your's it is off to the side.

I used the RADIX tube with the Volant box.

That's kind of what someone told me - take a 3" or 4" hole saw and drill a hole in the bottom of the stock box. Is that gonna make a difference? Does that sound like the best way to go?
