No .. I didn't try one .. notice I didn't say it sucked, I just said it seems like a gimmic to me.

If you want to donate one for the cause ... I'll try it out, take it to the track and see if I notice any gain in MY truck. I might can also get a 4.8 with drop in K&N and single in/dual out Flow40 to do some before and after runs too.

I'd really like to try out the new VR intake more than anything!

Default 04 trucks

I think the guy at Vararam told me that gm tried to address the issue of the TB by reshaping it for 04. Personally, I have not compared the previous years to the 04 so I don't know if there is a difference. Reshaping the TB would make the velocity stack less effective.

Maybe that's how GM raised the advertised HP from 285 to 295 for the 2004 5.3, but I didn't notice that the torque increased any.

Anyone know what they did (or even care what they did, ha)?

For the people who see it as a restriction...

How about likening this device to aftermarket porting in cylinder heads. Removing too much material and loosing velocity is BAD. The heads may flow good numbers, but the motor will be doggy when it's not getting spanked. If I recall my old muscle-car stuff correctly, some (old) small chevy heads have their ports filled in a bit to increase velocity, depending on the application.

I'm not saying this as a set in stone fact that the v-stack will work - just putting this up for a discussion to see if anyone else see's the device in this manner.

My take on this - I think it's definitely a good idea, and has good potential to work. I'm one who swears by the stock airbox, so I'm not really the norm, either.

I'd like to take a good look at my TB one of these days, and note what the v-stack will be doing for airflow, before I'd choose purchase...

Safe Side, I keep hearing things about computer updates. I really can't say for sure though.

j's01 - That's very interesting that you say the '04 TB's were updated. There is a conversation over at the Silverado SS site where a lot of '03's seem to be getting (relatively to me) poor mileage. Not a whole lot of '04's piped in. I'm getting well above the norm for mileage.

Well, I tried it as well. I debated then ordered one from you Tom. I have to say, I put that thing in and 1st and 2nd gear pull alot harder. The shift into 2nd is hard as well. Lower RPM's it shines, didn't notice anything up high at all. IMO, it was worth it. I would beleive in the 20 some rwhp but only down low. I guess though, like all mods some work on some cars other cars like it.
I would do it again, but I have ported TB's on the F-bodies.

As far as the gas mileage goes, stock ours averaged 11.9 to 13.9 almost all the time. It now averages 14.9 to 16.2. On the highway I got 21 mpg on a recent trip that was all highway. The average above is in town and highway. Mods are:

K&N filter
Velocity Stack
Mobil 1 10W 30
Taylor 8mm wires
NGK Iriduim TR-55 plugs
Berlin bed cover, soft
Vent shades
LineX

Something worked somewhere. The cover was one of the most recent things, it did add in general about 1 mpg on average by itself.
