Default Valve Stem Seals for 2002 Silveradio 5.3 Engine?

Hi Guys!

I have a 2002 Silverado with a 5.3 engine.It has 3,889 miles on truck.

If it idles for two or three minutes and you blip the throttle it smokes whitish blue smoke out the tail pipe. It wont smoke if it sets overnight.

Before you say why don't you take it to a dealer here is why. They say it is normal and it doesn't use enough oil to have work performed on it. They say also that it is more than likely unburned fuel. My truck uses about a quart of oil in 3,000 miles.

I don't mind a whole lot 1 quart in 3,000 miles but I can see it smoking and this just kills me, it is embarrassing also.

Do you know of any aftermarket companies that makes valve stem seals for the 5.3 engine yet.

I talked to a dealer they said that the valve stem seals on a 2001 was 14mm and the ones on a 2002 are 22mm so they wont interchange. I think it is the type valve stem seals they use that is causing my truck smoke.

Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions??

I will just pay someone to put on the valve stem seals myself if you think this will fix it.

Thanks Lee!!

You guys have any ideas!

This "it's normal" attitude of GM is starting to bug me. My rear 3rd door window was making noise and I thought they might tell me that was normal too. I would say that you may need more break in time but then again it sure as hell should not be smoking.

I hate to say it but you may have one of those motors that are out of tolerance. Does it knock, slap or tick first thing in the morning or after sitting a bit? That and oil use is one of the first signs of trouble. Monitor the oil usage. I have heard of guys not making it to 3000 and the low oil light comes on. Sure enough they were big time low.

Gee, a quart every 3000 miles doesn't sound too bad. The smoke would definitely **** me off though.
The earlier seals don't have the spring base built into them. If you switch the seals to GM#12533586 for intake and #12457652 for exhaust you will also need to obtain the earlier style spring bases. I don't have a part number for the spring base, but if you email me I'll gladly give you a set.
Hope this helps,
Richard

Thanks for the bulletin. They did indeed replace the window assembly.

Hi Guys!

I forgot to ask you there are 5 holes in the dip stick on a 5.3 engine. Does from the top hole on the dip stick down to the add oil part on the dip stick, does this mean when you get down to the add oil part of the dip stick, you need to add a quart of oil?
