Default Valve to Piston Clearance; Finding TDC

Will be installing a cam soon.

Is there any way to check valve to piston clearance w/ the heads still on? By what method?

What about finding accurate TDC w/ heads still on the block?

Thanks

I don't know of any accurate way to check piston to valve clearance without removing the heads but finding true TDC is easy if you have a degree wheel and a piston stop, just rotate the motor both directions to the piston stop half the distance between the place it stops in both directions is true TDC.You can set the degree wheel pointer there as the starting point to check your valve timing. If you are degreeing your cam you'll need a indicator dial to check the opening and closing points.

Take an old spark plug and wield a small piece metal long enough to contact the piston on to it.
