Default Ugraded Transmission

Hey i was thinking about going to a scrap heap and tryin to get a transmission from a wrecked truck that will bolt up to a 5.3, because im about to supercharge my truck with an ati and i figure ill eventually blow it, and this will allow me to get beefed up parts for it over the period of a year or whatever it takes to blow the tranny.. first is this a good idea or not, and number two how much would it cost for just parts that could handle say 600 rwhp or so?

I think its a good idea too. Of course you won't know the history or condition of the trans when you buy it. No matter, if you have it built or at least have parts ready, it will save you time and money when you do have problems in the future. I don't know what year truck you have, or even how many miles on it. But it could be possible to find a cheap transmission, get it built up and install it (and a converter) before you break your stock transmission. That would let you sell your properly working transmission for more $$$ afterwards. End result would be less money invested and no broken transmission sitting around.
