Default U-Joint Question

my roomate has a 2000 z71 w/ 6" lift, 3" body lift, and 36" tires. there is a loud squeaking noise coming from under the truck that gets louder as the truck goes faster, and it's not the tires/brakes. there is also a clunking sound when he puts it into drive or reverse. some off-road guys up here think it is the U-Joint. anyways has anyone had a similar problem? so is it the u-joint? if so how do you fix it? and what tools would be needed?

we were thinking about taking it to the dealership but didn't know if it would be covered under warranty. he also has an extended warranty so hopefully you all could let us know.

There is an update that gm is doing on our trucks. It is a nickel plated slip yoke. I had the same noise coming from mine and they replaced it. The squeaking is probably the u joints and I am not sure that would be covered under warranty with the lift. The slip yoke should be no matter what.
