How about an aftermarket EFI unit like the ones offered from JEG'S, would those bolt right up to the motor in those trucks? Would they be easier to tune? Just for informations sake, how difficult would it be to swap an LT1 into one of those trucks if you had a stand alone engine mamagement system like the ones from speartech?

Since it just wouldn't do to swap a carb intake on those crappy heads you would have your choice of aftermarket or worked GM heads. You could throw a carb intake right on though if you had to. You would also need to convert to a distributor. On mine I dropped a 383 in with some Brodix heads (had them sitting around). I hooked up the entire engine harness with the TBI sensors hanging out of the way and the TPS sensor adjusted half open. All the gauges worked and I was able to tune the carb by the O2 sensor
Anything you want to do would be possible with the exception of mixing regular SBC heads with vortec style. If you go vortec style you need the vortec style intake to match. Personally, Vortec heads would be the least expensive and minimum performance option I would consider.

P.S. Don't try this if you might even have a remote chance of getting smog tested!

Pricing on the pair of manifolds is $1795.00 and they require on-center turbine housings. $6K will get you everything pictured here.

You will also have to run the Edelbrock Pro-Flo. Factory accessories will also interfere with the wastegates and turbos at the front of the engine. The Vintage Air Front Runner is the easiest solution.
