I have a ported throttle body on my truck now and it seems to be driving like ***. I was told that i need to tune the maf using my HPtuner but I can't figure out how to do it. Anyone have any advice?

I saw someone say the MAF needed tuning but this
has not been my experience. My port-job changed
nothing but the top end MAP seen. Especially on trucks
where the MAF is way out on the elbow, there should
be zero MAF effect. However if the MAF is close-
coupled to the TB then the blade may "steer" air
across the MAF and this -might- change a bit with
the porting / filling.

But before you knock yourself out over MAF tuning,
give it one more check for vacuum leaks etc. which
might mess your mixture up as badly, without the
MAF needing anything done.

Ok, the MAF is in the stock location. I don't have any vacuum leaks. I can't speak on the porting job though because i bought it on ebay. Maybe the tb is the problem. I found this link http://www.allmod.net/hpt/ but i can't figure out how to do it. I'm stupid i guess. He says to log maf hz and dynamic airflow with hptuners. I just purchased a Shaner's tb from someone on here and should have it soon. I'll throw that in there and see what happens.

Sorry man. I dont really know of anyone that had to retune for a ported TB. Most are of the opinion that porting it does absolutely nothing. I didnt notice much if any difference in airflow or anything else other than a little better throttle response.

You might have done something wrong. I've ported around 7 TBs for F-bods and 1 for my first truck and never had to retune. You shouldn'y have to retune at all unless you accidentally took out some material around the TB blade itself and created a gap between the blade and bore. This will allow extra air to pass through and really screw up your idle and/or throttle response.

Wouldnt he see a noticably higher idle though? Im thinking that the Ebay TB may be garbage. Are you measuring if the blade is opening all the way with your tuning software?

Throttle by wire throttlebodies don't respond very well to porting,I gave up on mine and went to a cable operated throttlebody, because of the throttle response issues. Now I'm running a FAST 90mm throttlebody.

mine is a 2002 so it's got a throttle cable. the blade appears to be copper. can't see any gaps or anything. doesn't idle higher. no vacuum leaks as far as i can tell. This is on a boosted truck. does that make a difference? we'll see what happens when i get the shaners one. how can i tell how far it is opening by using my software?
