Default True duals or single muffler?

I have an 06' SSS with a 6.0,and I'm getting ready select my exhaust and need some advise from you experts. My question is, should I go with true duals w/ x-pipe or single muffler? The SSS is set up already with dual in, dual out to a single, to the tip. I don't have any mods except for my Volant CAI, and don't plan on anything except for a tune. I have some concerns before I do this. I do not want to lose any low end power, will true duals effect this without any mods? Will it sound better and louder with dual w/x pipe or single? And the last question: dumping and turn down the exhaust before the axle or after, want is the purpose for this? Is it sound reduction or more power? I don't mind the sound or interior noise. The most important thing is, I don't want to lose low end TQ. What do you guys think?

well for the mods you have planned ahead, your stock exaust tubing will be fine.

dynomax makes a muffler with a built in X in it. i think that would be the best route to go with, b/c it will take very little fabrication to get it in place of the stock one.

the dumping part is just a personal preferance. some people don't like the look of a tail pipe and some want it to be louder. since you'll still be running cats you can go ahead and dump it if you'd like. it will make it louder than with the tail pipe ran all the way to the back but won't be overwhelming you know...

hope this helps you some,
lance

What is the purpose of the x-pipe? Better flow and or better sound?

single-out dumped at 3" over the axle is the way to go (with aerochamber muffler and high flow cat) Fast is good, fast but still legal is the way to go.

the xpipe will equalize exhaust pressure between both pipes. Personally I don't know any specifics on performance advantages, but it does have a different sound than using a true dual setup. as for an opinion on your exhaust setup, my buddy has a 2002 SS 4wd and he put JBA shorties on it and ran a single flowmaster 40 series 3" c/c and dumped it right before the axle. He kept the existing high flow cats and just went from there to the flowmaster. It was a nice sound on the top end and had good pickup on the low end and at cruise it wasn't very loud at all. there's so many options really, but I know that setup sounded pretty good on the SS

Thanks for the info guys. I know the muffler is preference. I'm leaning towards a Borla XR-1, or a Spintech pro street. Do you guys think I would gain some bottom end if I did this; from the collector, a few feet down, X-pipe to dual in, to muffler, to a 3" single out dumped before the axle. Or is that to much back pressure? Or should I do everything except, do a dual out dumped to a 3". I like it loud and deep, so dumping and turning it down before the axle, would be my choice I guess. I don't like tail pipes. The sound I'm looking for is hard to explain. I had a guy with an SSS that lived down the street from me. He had the most awesome sounding truck!! Everytime he drove by my house, the freak'n windows would shake, and it didn't sound like he had a cam. This is no lie man!! I never had the chance to go and ask him what kind of set up he had. But Damn it man, that thing sounded kick ***. I wasn't much that it was loud, but it was deep as hell. It sounded like he a 572 big block in his truck. I sure wish I could have asked him, but he moved. That's the sound I'm looking for. I want to be able to sit next to someone at a light, and their ear drumbs are raddeling. Does anyone know what kind of set up he may have had?
