Default True duals really worth it??

I did a search and nothing really came up so I'm asking, is true dual exhaust really worth it on our trucks? I've tried alot of mufflers and all seem to resonate more than I like but they all were a single 3" inlet using the factory head pipe. I've gone to a stock 3" tailpipe and muffler off of a Tahoe and it actually performs as well as any other muffler I've tried, it's just so quiet. I don't mind the exhaust rumble, I just don't want any resonation. I was considering trying true duals but I was going to keep the factory Y pipe and have aother Y pipe flanged and hooked up to it. Two Y's back to back create an X, then I was going to have 2.25" pipe run and use two 4"x9"x18" Magnaflow mufflers. What is the benefit of true duals versus the single stock pipe going into a muffler? Do duals resonate? I've found that the smaller the tailpipes, the less it resonated. I was wondering if true duals with 2.25" pipe, would resonate less than the stock 3" pipe into a dual out muffler? Any thoughts and/or opinions on dual exhaust are welcome. Really!

IMHO you have spent a lot of money on exhaust systems. It's your money and your buisness but I don't think you will ever be happy with any exhaust. Everything is a tradeoff. It is either to quiet or it resonates on you. What you are looking for I do not beleive exists. You just seem like a hard person to please.
I would hate to see what your intermediate pipe looks like after how many mufflers? Tell you what. Quit fooling around with the chop shop and buy the Dynomax cat back system. You can run a Super Turbo muffler with either single out or a dual out setup and it will come with a NEW 3 inch intermediate pipe. It's your choice and your money so do as you please but if you want power quit focusing so much on the muffler and look somewhere else. The best thing for you to do is quit listening to John at PV. I know this sounds like one hell of a flame but I have nothing against you. Save your money for real mods that will gain you more power for your dollar.

No point in doing it unless your planning on thowing some real power through that motor.

He has tried every bolt-on out there looking for the "one" mod that will wake up the truck. Its the internals that dictate the engine power characteristics. Bolt-ons are only going to enhance (or degrade) what the engine give them.

Hey Y2k I used to have the big 3 1/2 inch by 20 inch long or whatever, and they caused the resonation! I put some smaller tips on about the same diameter as the pipes and it is a lot quieter in the truck but still loud on the outside. But now I want louder so I will probably do the dual like you said in your post but just without mufflers.

OK, point taken, I guess I'll stop with the bolt on's! How much to have a cam installed, including all parts needed and labor (ballpark)? What, a $700-$1,000. I'm just real leary off opening up a perfectly good engine and creating problem that I don't have now. Next, I guess I could opt for a torque converter, that's another $1,000. I guess I'll wait for the money genie to knock on my door.

Jim, a cam that would suit your tastes would probably be in the 208/210 530/530 range and cost in the $300 range with 2-300 for labor and stil use stock tuning. You can get TCI converter for about $500 all day long. You should be able to get it installed for under $200.

It seems that trying this filter, or that muffler, then these pullies, and those intakes, with fans and a GMAF.... would cost a few dollars too.

I guess I'll have to check into it further to get some real prices. I really don't want to have the engine opened up so I guess I'll look into torque converters. I'm a conservative person by nature, that's why all the bolt on's. But, I also know, you get what you pay for.

I have a hard time waiting and saving, which is what I'm going to have to do to get a TC or cam. Trying to convince the wife is also another matter, she doesn't understand the little bit here and there I spend. No way, she'll understand $700 here or $700 there.
