i've decided to take a slightly different approach w/ my engine to possibly save money. as noted i plan on putting a 3.75' stroke(400) crank in, lt4 cam, hopefully lt1/lt4 heads down the line. this all brings me to my pothole. i would like to bore the engine some. .060 over sounds good but what i'm wanting to know is would my stock rods work w/ the new pistons that i put in and would my heads(stock, or the 2 mentioned) work w/a bored engine. and what bore would be safe w/ the mods coming.
thanx

The heads have nothing to do with the bore of an engine (ex: Heads will only work with a .030 bore.) and the rod has nothing to do with the bore. However, you do want a rod that is of proper length so you don't pull the piston too far down in the bore or too far up.
Pretty much any bore will be safe although a .030 bore is most popular with those engines.

LTx heads are reverse flow - I'm sure they will bolt on, but they are not designed for the GenI motors. There are probably hundreds of heads available for a GenI SBC, take you pick.
Does the block need to be bored? If not, then don't - IMO - unless you absolutely need those extra 5 cubic inches.
if you are going to do a stroker "eventually", why not just do it now and get the stroker crank?

You need a 4.030 bore with a 3.750 crank and the 5.7" rods will be fine but some people opt for the 6.0" rods.
By the way.....the LTx engines are Gen II. The LSx are Gen III. Our engines are Gen I.
If you need anything else, just PM me...I have a 383 in mine.

Boring it more just makes for a little more cubes and a lot more on the extreme side of building engines. Personally, .040 would be the max I would go on a stroker engine just becuase you are getting close to each cylinder. If you need more cubes then go with a 396 SBC kit with a 4.030 bore/3.875 stroker or get a 400 block.

yea i was thinking about getting a 400 block and reusing all the parts possible from this block but then i was like tha hell w/ it i'll just get another car and build this block so i can stick w/ the roller cam set up. most likely i'll just get the cam for the '96 vette, and upgrade the springs on my heads. while on topic. about how much does it cost to get the block bored and rehoned?
