Default tranny takes a poop at 7psi

, i beat the holly hell out of the thing and then go out for some tire testing with the lowest power setting i can run. 7psi and no nitrous and the the stupid thing broke

it feels like it is out of oil but isn't and the oil is not even a little bit red anymore. it makes a whirling sound like it is low on oil and will move about 100feet at a time and then just revs. really feels like it is out of oil. i check the tranny oil about every 2 weeks and it has always looked good. right to the top and red and not too stinky.

going to have to call a tranny expert, i bet chuck at flp would give me some ideas. might just try puting some fresh oil in it but that isn't likely to help. the tranny temp did go way up too. not retardly high but up to about 240 as i tried to limp it home. ended up geting it towed .

i still say these things rock. it has put up with a lot. might just be time for a build unit.

Like someone said recently, "A Badge of Honor."

Bragging rights...."Hi, my name is Jim - I blew up a 4L80."

Now for the next step...."Hey buddy, you know who I am? I'm the guy who blew up a built 4L80..."

Told you so!! I already proved they are not bullet proof. That "able to hold 700 horsepower with just a shift kit" is bullcrap. The 80 is definitely tougher than the 60 and no way would a 60 ever hold up to what you are doing. I would say a built 80 should hold you for a good while. Sorry bout the luck, but like the others said congrats on the accomplishment!

GM just released the 4L85E and from the testing info we recieved it was made for your type of application, plus it carries a 3/36 warranty

That warranty would be pretty sweet.

Sorry to hear about that parish. did you find out anything that works with those tires before it went out?

it held up to some crazy power for a long time though. It sounds like it the bands inside to me. You may only need to order new bands and clutches and be fine for another 8 months.

Try changing the filter. Someone was telling me that sometimes the pan will get some junk in it. When the pump starts running, and it starts pulling more fluid, it will ssuck all the stuff into the filter, clog up and stop running. You can shut it off, all the fluid coming back through will 'backwash' the filter, and the cycle starts all over. So ... try dropping the pan, and change the filter. You might also look at the fluid or if there is any buildup in the pan.
