Question Tranny Question

I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU CAN TELL A 4L60E FROM A 80E BY LOOKING AT IT.I HEARD THAT THERE ARE 17 BOLTS ON THE PAN OF A 80 AND ONLY 16 ON A 60.IS THAT TRUE OR WHAT.TIA

The 4L60E has one speed sensor on the extension housing. The 4L80E has TWO speed sensors on the drivers side of the CASE. The 4L60E has the main electrical connector on the passenger side, the 4L80E has the main electrical connector on the drivers side. The 4L80E (at least later ones) are cast "4L80E" on the side.

they also say the modle number somewheres on the side transmission at least mine does.....if it is from a 1/2 ton you can bet its not a 80e
