#1
Hello Friends,
Does anyone know what is the original length of our axle's I want to say 33" is that correct I know mine is a 30 spline ( I have a 2002 4WD tahoe if that makes a difference) What do you rec. for a a replacement axle? price?
I need some rear axles fast. Like overnight or sunday! I hate breaking parts on saturday night-
Thanks-
Ben
Full story below.....
Broken parts to date in order after ATI Installed.
1.G80 locker (cracked the spider gears)
2.Tranny shows signs of...**** major slippage.
3.Replaced converter with 2600yank with Tranny
4.Driver side rear Axle.
5. Motor? Driveshaft? Ujoints?
I put up some pics of my tranny install on my website . I got the Yank tranny and the 2600 converter. The truck is really fast! Well for about a week. I dropped the hammer (lol) at around 28mph while next to a honda V-Tec (Its funny how many Vtec stickers were on the car) needless to say he did not even have a chance, but what was really cool was the loud snap, crackle spin I heard. i first thought it was the diff again, except I still had power to wheels.
I drove the 10min back home and opened the diff cover. Everything looks OK. Next I spun the wheels. Rear passenger, nice and smooth with the drivershaft rotating. Rear driver, spinning in the wind. I removed the brake and the axle pulled right out. It was toast. I now have more cool broken pieces of metal.

The Detroit locker did not get damaged it appears fine, and the only reason why I made it home-. I had the mud terrains on at the time (I am selling the toyos and weld wheels even though they handle much better and are quieter) I am planning on the dyno but I am also planning on a 6.0L conversion first-
Oh yeah- the disc brakes (and calipers) are what held the left rear in from falling out. It did squeak a little-
I also did a nice 1 wheel burner (because I was a little pissed) No damages in the ring or pinion-

ok i was just throwing some bs out there. but if you are doing a 6.0 swap and you have that supercharger then you are deffenatly going to need a diffrent rearend. with all that weight you actualy get some traction and it is obvious that is why you are breaking things. i believe you can get a 9" or 12 bolt set up however you want it such as what kind of gears, axles, and direrential you want. It would be set up ready to directly bolt in of like 2000 dollars. sounds expensive but you are prob getting close to that with all the bs you have went through already.

Very nice ..you must drive like an animal lol
Did you have the toyo's on the truck when the axle broke ?
How heavy is your truck?
think that your wieght might play a part in all your drivtrain failures
How's the New lockers working out for you ?
my trucks been off the road with some non mechanical problems
after you get the axles done take that thing to the dyno and give us some numbers on that Beast

I have been told by 4wheelparts.com that no one makes an aftermarket rear axle for our 01 - 03 rear ends, and that i can only get a stock replacement right now from a dealer-
is this right? They said that there is some kind of washer press fitted on the axle and the computer will get all messed up if I do not use a stock axle?
Any help would be great-
