Default Tranny blew again what do I do?

My tranny has blew for the 4th time in 6 months. I have no clue what I should do right now. I don't have alot of cash so I can't just go buy a new tranny. My tranny is what I like to call well moded. I have 9 pack clutch pack for the 3-4, vacuum mod, trans go, vet servo, 5 pinion plantery, deep pan, tranny cooler, and my vig 3800 stall. I have been bringing it to a local who is not really a performance tranny builder and maybe that is my problem. Has anyone here built their own tranny? How hard is it? What should I go with if I rebuild it? Is there a brand name of clutches that last longer than others? or should I just say to hell with it and get a different tranny? Any help would be great. I have no idea why I am blowing up my tranny so much, but I just want something to last.

Sadly, the 4L60E is just not up to any type of increased HP. Hate to say it but look at a fully built tranny or 80E conversion. You are just gonna throw good money after bad staying with the 60E.
One other item, the 65E tranny is much better than its cousin. If you can find one of them it will drop right in a handle your HP.

I just went throught the same thing with my work truck. I spent more than enough on 4l60e's that I could have had an 80 a long time ago. This was a bad time for me financially for the 60 to blow but I refused to dump any more $$ into it. I broke out the 'ol MasterCharge and went and bought a 4l80e and I am pretty confident that my tranny problems are now over.

My vote is for biting the bullet and doing a conversion.

Default How Much Would a 4L65 Cost?

I would like to ponder the subject. What would my 60 bring as a core in great condition?

Dark,
have your tuner check your shifting times.
could be a possibility it is trying to shift down when shifting up, putting it in a bind..
what exactly broke?
only really option is to bite the bullit , adn either get a 65E built or convert to an 80E..

i had a 91 ( i know old) z28 that was popping 700r4's like crazy and everytime it was the 3-4 clutch pack. i think once it was the lower planatarys. this is the close relative of that tranny, my advice is get rid of it. get another 60E or step up to a 65 or so. just don't keep using the same one. All of mine just went at odd moments. on the I state, in town, backing out of my driveway. none during hard driving.

goshawk23 has a good point.

I have seen this too many times, trany keeps blowing for some unknown reason, get it rebuilt and it blows again, and at the same time others are ripping the streets with the same kind of hp on the same type of trans and nothing is happening to them.

the one thing that remains constant is that it's the same trans getting rebuilt over and over,
get another trans and have it rebuilt, replace the one you have.
their mit be a chance that it has some small defect that keeps getting over looked.

in my case, i had 3 different shops rebuild my old 700r4. two shops did it twice. each time i heard the same thing, it can take a beating now! i never beat on it and it still kept dying. i kept the fluid more than fresh in it as well.
