i am bumping my rev limiter all the time and my shift points are only 5200 and the rev limiter is at 6000rpm. i ordered a shift kit 2 days ago but since then things seem to have goten alot worse tell me what you think.
if i floor it right after it shifts into 2nd it pulls hard, right up to about 4800, then it feels like the tranny complety releases and i peg the rev limiter, i am not sure if this is the shift not holding or just 2nd gear not holding. it was flaring from 5200 up to about 5800 just a few days ago and that is why i ordered the shift kit but now it seems much worse. also prety much anytime i floor it and it downshifts it will hit the revlimiter before it pulls itself down into the lower gear, i allready lowered the mph shiftdown points so it doesn't shift down so much, this seems to be a huge slip while between gears.
are my clutches shot, anyone try puting in a rebuild kit by themself. i am thinking aobut ordering a full rebuild kit and throwing that and the shift kit in at the same time. is there any chance just the shift kit would fix it?

That is pretty much the same thing mine is doing. I have been babying it for about 4,000 miles now, but I think it is about to go real soon. Good luck.

i have been doing some research, sounds like i have the standard clutch slipage and it will only get worse, it apears that i am well into the stages of a bad tranny. it also looks like one of those $2000 rebuilds gives you a hell of alot of parts besides the standard clutches, plates, bushings...
everything i read tells me i need one of those $2k trannys if i expect it to hold at my present level and if i go any further with the truck i may need to get the $2k rebuild and a freshen up kit every year or so.
i don't have $2k so i am going to have to baby the truck around for awhile, by the time i have the cash it will be nice and cool and i hope to see some mid 13's. the tranny is suposta give "at least a tenth" in the 1/4 so that is an added benifit.

mine took a dump at 40k. Started making all kinds of noises and then slowly started slipping. Then all at once it was gone. The dealer said it had bad bearings from the factory.

well hell, i guess i played with my shifter too much too soon (35mph, then dropping it into 1st to get the tire chirp); my tranny is toast only after not even 6k miles; dealership says i burnt out 1st gear and some other stuff, but i'm not telling them that i was downshifting in it. supposedly, they are rebuilding my tranny....so hopefully i wont have anymore future problems if i dont mess with the shifter anymore. i should get i back on monday, so we'll see what happens...

Same concept, with less problems. You are cruising in 3rd gear at 35, floor it, the tranny kicks down into first. Not understanding why you were doing that.

just shifting down to hear the chirp is kind of silly but if your going to race from a roll it is better to be in the right gear when you hit it, no lag waiting for the tranny to downshift.

yea most of the time it was when i was racing i'd drop it down, but i think i probably did something with the flywheel (maybe getting it locked up or something) then 1st gear would stay engaged and it would never shift out of 1st, so that caused me to burn out 1st gear....

Parish, it sounds like your 2-3rd clutch packets took a ****. I had that happen too. thats what happens when you have a blower and a stock trans. i blew mine with 7kmile on it.
