towing questions
#1
I have a 2002 yukon XL that i am using to tow my car around , open trailer. Total weight is about 5500 pounds. I just bought the weight distribution pack and it seems to have gotten rid of some of the rear end squat. Question is how do i position the car on teh trailer? I try to center the cars weight over the trailers axles. Also is it wise to get a set of heavy duty rear springs for the truck? And if so where might i be able to pick some up?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I doubt you'll need any helper springs.Position the car on the trailer where the rear of the Yukon does'nt squat.Take it for a test drive and see if it wants to sway.If it's stable you have found the right position. If not move the car forward on the trailer till it goes down the road smoothly.Make sure you have an electric brake-controller.A Yukon will tow 5500 lbs very easily.

If you still don't like the bounce, I would just add a set of airshocks. They are the cheapest route to stiffen the back end up. The best way is helper bags, but that costs more also. I use to tow my travel trailer (6200#'s) with airshocks and a weight distribution hitch and the ride was perfect. I'd run about 80 - 100 psi when loaded and 8psi unloaded. Oh yea, and that was with my 3/4 drop.

Once the car is in the right place you'll pretty much forget it's back there. Just mark the trailer will be when it's up there and use a piece of wood to let you know when to stop if your putting the car on by yourself.

i agree with what everyone has had to say. i don't tow open trailers except for several atv's on a 10' but have been with friends with trailer queens and they balance over the trailer wheels. but they also have marked where they stop the car at. i do tow a 26 foot camper. my truck doesn't seem to squat too much. my sisters tahoe pulled it and the same results for the most part. weights we tow are sure to be lighter than what you pull, so, i would do the air bags. my wifes navigator has the factory air suspension and it raises right up. all factory so i don't know the settings.
