I know it was asked recently if anybody had dealt with Performance Transmission Center (www.transmissioncenter.net) but I want to know if anybody has used their converter? It is supposed to have a 12 inch lockup clutch for full towing capacity but a 9 inch main body for increased stall. Sounds like the best of both worlds to me. My buddy has a 93 Lightning that runs neck and neck with my truck and we have similar driving styles (***** to the wall at all times) and he has burnt up 2 Level 10's and 1 Precision because the lockup clutches can't take the heavy towing that we both do. I am going to do the trans and conv in the near future and I hope to make a good choice the first time. Opinions, please!

You might want to check out Yank converters as well. The truck thruster 2800 and 3000 claim to maintain factory tow rating.
I ordered mine yesterday <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Kent...you will definately have yours done before mine. Can't wait to hear how it feels <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

I think you should go with a Yank truck 2600 (maybe 3000). The whipple puts out so much torque that the converter will definitely be higher than the rated stall speed. Especially with a whippled 6 liter. I like the Yanks slightly smaller shell that will tow more than the 9" from vig. A yank truck 2600 will probably stall 3000 in your truck.
Kent, sounds like you have already bought the vig, but thats a little high in my opinion for your setup. Who knows, it may be just right for you. The whipple stops making good power in the mid 5000s. I would hate for you to get a stall that puts you past the meatiest area of your powerband.
Parish8 posted something recently about his Yank 3000 stalling real BIG with his 6 liter and all his mods.

From what i understand, gear ratio and vehicle weight play a role in what a converter will stall too, along with tire size.I ordered a Yank 3000,my truck is A reg. cab stepbed, will be running 4.10 gears.Kents is a reg cab stepbed as well, but with
3.73's.I may be way off,but i think the stall will be fine with the lighter trucks.I dont know what parish's gear ratio or tire size is,but extra cab 4x4 weighs a good bit more than our trucks, which would contribute to it stalling higher.Does this make any sense or am i crazy???
Let me know what you think. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I agree on Parish8's weight. You have a 4.8 and are hurting for torque as it is. I think the 3000 should be fine for you.
My point was to get you guys to think about your powerband, what the converter will stall in your vehicle, and choose accordingly.
For an N/A vehicle or even a centrifugal charger, a bigger stall is going to really assist you getting out of the hole into your power band. The whipple makes so much more torque down low and torque peak is earlier.
If I remember Kent's posts when he first had the whipple installed, he had lots of traction issues. Consider the traction issue doubled now.

I am wanting something that wil flash 2800 to 3000. I am planning on running some real slicks this year so I know the next thing to go will be the G80! I have had good luck from Precision with other vehicles but my buddy had a bad experience with them about a year ago where the problem was definitely their fault and they wouldn't cover it under warranty so I have been leaning toward the Yank but this Performance trans unit with the full size lock up clutch has me curious. Wish I knew somebody who has one.

I am hoping to get a couple passes in on the G80 with the Whipple, tq and ET Streets. We will see how that goes.
By the way, truck will be done tommorrow morning so I will post my impressions then.

My tranny started getting rebuilt yesterday, should be done today. I am getting a PI Vigilant 3200 stall as well, so I will let you know how it does with the Whipple. I don't think you can tow much more than 2,000 pounds though with this converter.
Good luck, Kent.
