Default Tired of my 02' Z06 cam..

Gonna try something new and bigger.

My problem is a lack of pulling power in the 3-5k rpm range, it basically feels stock. After 5k it pulls well.

I feel like I am leaving too much power on the table with such a high LSA so I am going to go big and see what happens since not many people go big in here. It only takes a couple hours to swap out so what the hell right? Hehehe

The new came is most likely gonna be a 226-.535-112 single pattern. I may eventually do a quick stage 1 port job on the stock heads and deck them to bring compression up as this will only cost $800 or so and the cam would like that.

In talkin with the cam guys (the make the cams for GTP), they said that the 226 on my 5.3L would work similar to the 224/232 cam in BLK01HDs 6.0L. Since with my smaller cubes (and lower flow heads) I don't need so much dur. and lift. and the low lift #s will keep me out of trouble once the heads are decked (for piston to vavle clearance and can use a lesser spring).

Soooo I'll let you guys know how it goes and if I gain much at the track

I think you are making a mistake not getting the XE high lift lobe. I bet you'd have about the same peak power with less duration and more lift, but your low end would be happier. Thats just my opinion.

No matter, just go for it.

It's ok Tex, extra input is always good. It's something I can ask them about.

The only reason I am simply just trusting them is I am getting a good deal on the cam and free labor. Plus after testing out BLK01HDs truck with my G-Timer, which I have proven to be within 1mph of track times, he is trapping an avg. of 98-99MPH with the same mods as me but in a 6.0L with a big cam. The also designed his cam so I figure if this doesn't pan out I am sure they'll work with me till we get one that is perfect AND you all will learn from my mistakes or accomplishments. LOL

The XE cams require beefy springs because of the fast ramp rate right?

Money would be better spent on cubic inches,as long as you are not afraid of an engine R&R

I think it's the XEr lobes that are harder on springs.

LOL

Like Paul just said. If I end up selling the Vette the I may end up doing the 6.0L swap. For the same price I can buy a used motor at a wrecking yard I could buy a core and a stroker kit and most likely have a full setup for $3k and I could then use my GTP heads on it and have one wicked engine and my 5.3L for smog years.

But until then I'll try out this cam and nitrous thing till I either hurt something or have enough money saved to swap.
