I only have 12k miles on the truck. I am not doing a stall for awhile. So, is there a good cam out there that makes good power and doesnt need a stall to retain driveability? FI is out of my price range right now. My plans are for now just going with a cam, tune, and headers. Also, if I went from 3.73's to 4.10's would that help with not having a bigger stall?

I have that cam in my 03, 5.3 Tahoe and I love it. Currently, I have the cam(it is also sold as the Crane #1449555), Crane dual springs and Crane rockers. It idles almost like stock with the stock PCM. Power improved everywhere from idle to 6000. Installed a tune from the Crane tuner and it really came to life. Now it's actually smoother than stock with a lot more power everywhere. Gas mileage went up about .5 mpg on the interstate on a trip at 80-85mph. Round trip from FL to KY at Thanksgiving averaged 17.8 and that included a total of 6hrs sitting for wrecks or road construction! My wife loves the power and smoothness. This is a great towing package as well. FWIW, I installed mine with 16000 miles and I currently have 32000 on the truck. It might be the best overall performance change that I have made in 30+ years of hot-rodding. I had a problem with the steering column, so I put the tune back to stock and took it back to the dealer for warranty repairs and they never said a thing. As soon as I left the dealership, I retuned it in 5 minutes and I'm as happy as a clam. Hope to install long tubes and a Bassanni exhaust soon. I bought all my stuff from Vinci Hi Performance in Orlando and they did the install. Absolutely awesome install! You cannot tell that the engine has ever been apart. Great service and info from Vinci. You can't go wrong with Roger!

 

I did my cam about month ago, I think it was the best mod yet. Marc W is using that same cam in his SS and he loves it. He also has not done a stall either. He said he doesn't see the need for one, he also has headers and is a 6 liter though.

 

I have a 206/212 cam from Cam Motion that I really like. No aftermarket stall required. Gained about 15-20 RWHP across the band, but the biggest gain was off the line, which was a pleasant surprise. I recently went from 3.73's to 4.10's and wish that I hadn't. Very little gain, and quite a few trade-offs including worse mileage (from 19 mpg to 17), shorter gear range (shifts sooner), and higher RPM's on the freeway, which contributes to greater noise at lower speed. I'll probably be going back to the 3.73's.

Did they advance the cam? Or was it a normal install.

I'm new to the site. I have a GMC sierra with a high output 6.0. I've noticed alot of talk about cams. Can you tell everything about them and ones you guys are running. How do they idle. Is their a lope at idle.

 

I think that cam would be fine without a stall as long as you get a tune done.
