Default Thermostat

Is there a 170 Degree thermostat out for our engines? Dont really want to drop to a 160, where is a good place to find them? I find them all the time for the 03 and earlier, if I am not mistaken in 04 you could actually change the thermostat vs. the whole housing.

Interesting, what year was that thermostat off of? I might have to check into that, I have not had mine apart yet so induldge me. I take it that there is no way for the BB to physically come loose into the cooling system?

I think someone posted before that you can get a Vette thremostat that is 170. So I guess check out some of the Vette vendors on LS1Tech. I might be wrong but that is what I remember reading.

I don't know about the 170 or the Vette therm. I bought a 180 from hypertech and it was a total waste of money. It didn't change my ECT by more than a couple of deg. if that. I still see 200 deg.

I'm going to a 160 when I get around to it.

Its funny you said that because I have the hypertech 180* thermostat right now. With my old LS1 engine I used to be around 195-200 on average. Now with my new LQ9 (higher compression too) it averages 184-192.
I don't know if it has to do with the new engine or the way I filled the radiator. With the LS1 I used straight dexcool and tap water to get a 50/50 mix. With the LQ9 I used all Premixed dexcool.

I would think you could BB a 180 and make it about a 170... I'd have to check some temps but I wouldnt think the stock thermo could get you down that low.. but I could be wrong too...

Is the vette thermostat any different though? I thought the LS2 water pump was different, doesn't necessarily mean the thermostat is different too, but just a thought?
