Go for it, it's a an easy swap and you can use it with the other engine.
It'll keep your engine cooler and no need for a tune.

Won't the colder temperature tell the computer the engine is not up to temp. yet and continue with excess fuel.?

It's an easy mod, and its been pretty effective so far. I just did it last weekend and my truck normally sat close to 210*, now it sits a half a tick above 180*. I put the 160* stat in.

I don't think the computer stays in cold start mode, because the stat is open and circulating coolant throughout. Plus, 180* is a lot warmer than ambient (I hope), which is close to what your coolant is at upon cold start up.

Go with the 160. The 180 didn't make a lick of difference in my temps. I run about 172 degrees now. Hypertech is the only brand I'm aware of. Several of the sponsers have them. Tbyrne and Thunder Racing come to mind.

Go to O'Reilleys. Regular thermostats will be fine. They have regular 160 thermostats for about $3-$5. Don't spend $50 on a hypertech one (you are just paying for the name).

I was told that hypertech was the only one who made one for the ls1. It is 50 bucks because it comes with a new water neck as well.

$50 isn't worth it.

That's how I see it. I have never seen one by anyone else for the LS1s

I'd get the thermo if you plan on doing any serious mods. Lots of HP creates heat and keeping the motor even 10deg cooler on avg. can go a long ways toward thwarting detonation.
