These vortec heads are not bad for a 23 degree type head. These heads are used highly in our mid level dirt track racing classes. { i know this isnt circle track site} A little angle milling to raise your compression and a nice 3 or 5 angle valve job and these heads work pretty nicely. We have many of these motors running flat tops and these heads in the 400- 500hp range. Custom Cams INC out of Louisiana or LSM camshaft specialties in minnesota will custom make you a cam for your vehicle and pick your brain about what you want to do. Just my two cents worth, hope it helps. They do make intake into which you can change it over to carb.
