Question Is there a better alternator? 01 Tahoe

Is there a better alt. out there for a 01 Tahoe it has been like this since I bought it. It seems to be very weak. It was hot yesterday and with the A/C on the lights dim a little. And the stereo probably doesn't help either. I was talking to a guy and he was saying something about the later models have a higher amp output alternator. Is this correct?

Thanks for any help

I believe mine came stock with a 130amp alternator. It has been replaced twice. At about 60K I started to get the voltmeter bouncing and the lights flickering at random times. The first time I replaced it I went with a Napa 130amp replacement. That one lasted about 60K and started to do the same thing. I finally went with a 200amp model from alterstart and it has been flawless for 20K now.

BTW-I my Tahoe is loaded with about 1200 watts worth of stereo and an XM radio receiver so my electric loads are a little higher I suspect.

kinda helps to know which alternator you have on there now. there are two different amp versions used on your truck.

Look closely at the alternator.. there should be a sticker or metal badge on it and somewhere it should say a number followed by an A or they might spell out "AMP"... so it might be something like 130A for an example.

New wire from the alternator to the battery. Can't remember the exact price but it was around $225 or $250 if I remember correctly. It was a direct replacement with the exception of the new wire.
