Your old gears? Didn't you say you were stock with 3:42s?

You can't catch any traction from 35-40 in a stock Ext. Cab Silverado???

You bought it from a chevy house????

If I could understand what you were trying to say, a more valid argument might be able to take place lol. Looks like someone took one too many smoke breaks during English class!

I once again, either you aren't stock and you don't know it, or you're bluffing.....

Gonna have to stick with my original opinion:

here it goes again:

I have to say that his times are not too far off base at all for a 02'....plain and simple the 02's are faster. I know i've posted this before but I have video and dyno proof. An 02' SBSC fleetside can run completely stock in the 14's. My friend Justin ran 14.8's all day long with 3:73's on the stock config. I know he picked up nearly 2 tenths from manually shifting. His first runs were 15.0's and he ended the day with 14.8's. It's not impossible with the right conditions in an 02'

Why would manual shifting pick up any ET if the tranny auto shifts at 5600rpms? It shift harder or something when you manually shift it?, Less lag?

When you manually shift generally you shift it closer to 6k. Or thats what I try and do anyway.

I'm not gonna say his times are legit but I am saying it should be possible in the right conditions.

Everyone thought my friends factory freak WS6 running 12's BONE STOCK was a bunch of BS till they see him do it. Or how about Raughammer running 11.50's with only 320 RWHP??

I'm just saying you never know.

SO the 5.3s will gain a little ET and mph shifting them closer to 6k then 5600rpms? When I had the Formula I shifted it a 6-6100rpms and I thought for sure the 5.3s mild cam would not need to spin that high. I ran in "D" on all three of my passes. I guess next time out I will manually shift it unless I get a HPP3 by then, in which case I will just adjust the shift points a tad higher. Mine stock feels like its about to run out of steam at 5600 though. I guess a little over run into the next gear would be good for the big *** trucks with highway gears.

Dyno sheets

Looking at all the pulls you can see that power starts falling off at as low as 5000 rpm. The benefit of holding the shifts out longer is not because it continues to make power, but that during the shift you don't drop to a lower rpm.

For example lets say in the 2-3 shift you would drop 2000 rpm. If you were running stock shift points you would be shifting around 5300-5400 rpm. This would mean after the shift, in third gear you would begin pulling from 3300-3400 rpm where you make substantially less power than at 4000rpm. If you were to begin pulling at 4000 rpm you would be able to utilize the higher HP created later in the curve. To engage your shift at this point would require raising you shift point by 600-700 rpm. So by extending your shifts you are better utilizing the stock power curve thus maintaining a higher average HP throught the run...this is what nets you the better ET.
