Flyer, by the time you got a clutch assembly, adapters, T56, and tuning to accomidate the stick you would have spent more than a 4L80E swap with a new stall would cost. Is it a durability issue or just the fun of yankin gears?

Im gathering the parts for a T-56 swap into my 2000 ECSB. I am building a small turbo kit with a 60-1 and looking for ~400-430rwhp, with gobs of torque. I really want the piece of mind with the T-56 and towing......with a street twin, it should handle all the lowend torque I throw at it without burning up autos all the time! Not looking to drag race it at all...but sure would be fun on the highway

I have thought about the 4l80e...but I have built a few turbo 6spd f-bodys...and the part throttle drivabilty and torque is INSANE.I used to own a 92 350 SS with a 5spd, and it made for a really good tow vehicle. I loved the 5spd on the highway, and never having to worry about heating a tranny up on long hauls. The t-56 shouldn't even break a sweat towing my 93Z!

Yeah, sure will! Once I get the inital Kit built, I will offer the turbo setup as a basic "tuner package", with header, crossover, wastegate and downpipe. Then you can talor it for you needs from there

I was thinking about the T56 because everyone talks about it but no one has done it. Swapping out the 'frictions' in a manual tranny would be a lot easier than rebuilding the auto. It's been a while since I've had the fun of throwing gears too. I just think it would make for a sweet street/strip truck and it would be even more so unique. The T56 would be a lot lighter and less parasitic drag than an 80e without doubt. That would be another reason.
Surely it couldn't be THAT hard. Get the clutch assemply from a standard truck along with the hydraulics and then get some custom or flexible lines to run to the T56, cut a hole in the floor, put a boot on it and call it done. Obviously I would have to get a shifter made or make one myself, but I'm thinking that would be the easier part.

My Corvette is 3450 with me in it,I have gone through five clutches in 2
years. If you do find a clutch that will hold and live for longer than a month,
It will suck to drive, real hiperf clutches dont want to slip and chatter like a
Bitch.I had a spec clutch that felt like it was going to break the car in half,
when i pulled out from a light.
