Default swapping out 4.8 for 6.0

How is everyone doing? Well I have my truck in the shop getting painted and upholstered. I am going to make it my summer truck. It is a 99 Silverado 2wd shortbed automatic with the 4.8 . I understand that a 6.0 either Lq4 and Lq9 will fit as long as I use the flex plate from the 4.8. What else would I need besides the engine? I'm planning on rebuilding the current transmission, the 4L60E. I want to get the engine within the next two weeks. Later in a few months i plan on upgrading the exhaust, headers, intake and cam it up. Should I go with the Lq4 or Lq9 and what else do I need such as wiring, ecu, etc etc and where can I get it from. Thanks a lot!

Hello , all is good lol.

You'll need a retune of your PCM ,
Keep your flywheel from the 4.8 ,
Other than that it's all the same , unless you just buy a 6.0 short block , you can use the 4.8 manifold but will need larger 6.0 injectors .

I wouldn't rebuild the 60e if it needs it , just swap in an 80e and be done with it , also cheaper than rebuilding the 60e .

Thanks for the reply, would you go with the lq4 or lq9 and I heard that the 4L80E requires extra work to make it fit, is that true?

I was just asking myself that same question and went with the best deal. LQ4 for $400 out of a 01 Yukon, Had the chance of getting a LQ9 with 76,000 miles for $1250 but am happy with the money I saved to do a full rebuild.

Im going with what Tim z said and get the 4L80E. Any idea on what kind of rear end gears to go with? I want to get it done at the same time .
