Default swapping cam...

i am gonna swap the cam out of my truck this weekend, its a 5.3. I am curious, will the lifter retainers hold the lifters in to put the new cam in? or do i need to get a bunch of those magnets?

I usually get a magnet and pull up on each one, just to make sure it gets into the cup like it should.

Make no suppen moves when the cams out.

my first cam swap was done with metal bbq skewers to hold them up. i wouldn't recommend that to anyone though.

just turn the cam a few times before removing and normally they stay up. We used dowel rods to sitck into the 2 front holes so if the lifters dropped they would hit them hopefully.

but pen magnets work wonders if it seems like one or 2 arent staying up. Just make sure when the stock cam gets almost all the way out that the other cam is lubed and ready to go right in. Also, the less down time between swapping times might help also. I wouldnt let the truck set all night without running before taking the cam out. The sooner the better
