Default Supercharger and towing

I was thinking of putting a supercharger on my truck but a couple of my buddies are telling me that towing boats, watercrafts, 4 place snowmobile trailers, etc. will hurt the supercharger. Is this true or are they just saying tis b/c they don't want me to be able to kick their *** even more (they are hardcore Dodge people).

Never heard anything as absurd as that.

The only time I'd be concerned with would be tuning, but otherwise, it shouldn't be anymore an issue than someone with a BBC punching it out even more and adding a heads and cam

It want hurt the supercharger. Thats what they were originally made for. GMC put them on their diesel engines for more towing power. So go ahead and let her eat.

Yeah pretty much all diesel engines have some type of forced air, mostly turbos. Granted you can hang up getting 200k miles of engine life but your only problem should be keeping gas in the tank. Them blowers sure love the octane.

i have a supercharger and tow all the time, the facts are you may actualy get better miliage while towing with a supercharger, all the extra torque allows you to stay in overdrive alot more of the time. this is with a whipple type supercharger, i don't think a ati/vortech type would help alot with towing except under heavy acceleration.

i now have a 6.0, whipple and yank, i still get better miliage while towing an enclosed trailer at 80mph than my 99 dodge got just driving around empty.

80mph with a trailer? Jesus Christ man! I was thinking of stop and go traffic, climing hills, etc. My supercharger experience was 10 mpg. up hill, down hill, sitting in the driveway, etc. With or without a trailer on the back.

I have not done much towing with the Whipple on, just a single Yamaha Waverunner, and I did not even know it was there. If you just want a supercharger just for towing, a Whipple would suit you well, instant boost at any RPM. I know a few people who tow pretty good weight with their trucks that are Whipplecharged, and only have good things to say. As far as gas milage goes, mine has stayed the same, if not better with the Whipple.

I put the Whipple on for the specific purpose of being able to tow better. I put the blower on when it had like 1400 miles so I only have one "before" towing instance to compare. That was when it had about 500 miles on the clock I pulled a 6000 lb load through some decent sized hills on a 500 mile round trip and it did an acceptable job. The next tow was 8000 lbs after the Whipple and it impressed the heck out of me. I regularly tow 6000 lbs and I usually set the cruise on 75-78 and go. I put it on the floor on freeway on-ramps with the load on it and by the time I merge I am going 75. I got 18.7 mpg empty last week on a highway trip but it gets 10-11 loaded.

Seriously, unless I look in the rear view mirror, I forget I have a car on a trailer out back.
