Where is the best place to get a Whipple? How hard are they to install?

I know T-Byrne has them and he may even have the intercooled unit by now.

How do the Whipplechargers pull threw the rpm range. I have heard they were strong on the low end but wasn't sure if they leveled off or kept pulling in the higher rpm's. I'm Going to get me a supercharger but I'm trying to decide between the Whipple and Vortech. What are your opinions.

I myself have had no detonation, even with California's crap gas, 91octane. I even been in some extreme heat, 100+, and have never heard any detonation.

That being said, my truck with the Whipple pulls strong from low RPM's up to 5000+. I guess it might seem like it does not have incredible top end because of the constant boost from idle to redline, but the low end torque is great for street driving, and towing IMO.

yea, what 1999stepside said, i think they pull prety well up top, they are just pulling all the way thru so you don't feel the top end hit like the vortech, the vortech/ati may peek out a little higher but for a truck that isn't strickly for drag racing the whipple seems to be the better choice. in my area i can get 92 octane gas and found that for the truck to run right i have to buy it all the time. not sure if 93 would be better or not but the 91 around here doesn't run well.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to decide which one I want. I will either get a Whipple or Vortech. I want to get as much info on both before I decide. A friend of mine wants me to get a turbo. I'm not real happy with the heat they put out though. Anymore info on the Whipple and Vortech will be helpful. Good and bad.

a turbo is the best by far but there are no kits, if i were doing it again i would go with a turbo, if nothing else just to be cool. it would be alot of work and money though.

Anyway, I can't give you results as I have an 8.1. I thought they had that Whipple had the intercooler out for all their chargers.

Talk to Gandolphxx on GM-Trucks.com. He has an 8.1L Avalanche with the Whipple and as far as I know he doesn't have the intercooler yet. He was planning on it, but last I talked to him, he hadn't.
