Default Stupid crate engine question

OK, I know this site is more oriented towards hardcore mods and not crate engines. But I think it's also probably the best place to ask this question which may seem stupid, but maybe I'm just missing something?

LS7 pn 19244098 - 505HP/470TQ 11:1 - $13600
LS376 pn 19301360 - 525HP/486TQ 10.7:1 - $8230

I know that's been the LS7 price pretty much since its introduction years ago as a crate. But damn...that's a nearly $5400 premium for less power out of more cubes. Both examples are dressed long blocks. What am I overlooking here?

7.0L vs 6.2L.

I don't believe they are the same block either.

Right, but the cheaper engine is more powerful, out of less cubes, for a lot less money.

The LS7 is lighter and built more for NA whereas the LS376 is an iron block meant more for power adders.

Straight from GMPP's site on the part # for the LS376 I posted: Block (P/N 12623967): Cast aluminum with 6-bolt, cross-bolted main caps

Ah, I thought you meant LSX376.

Well the most obvious difference are the cylinder head styles, camshaft, and max rpm rating. The LS376 is basically an LS3, and the LS7 is a high rpm NA engine. For $5k I would go with the LS3 and a blower.

Yeah, clearly there are better bang-for-the-buck combinations, and that's kind of what I was noticing in the LS7 vs. LS376, a $5400 difference in price and on the cheaper end you get more HP/TQ. Both are aluminum block so weight difference would have to be minimal.

As far as engines go though, the LS7 is better. The power difference is almost certainly because the LS3 has a much larger cam. The LS7 heads are also better, and the rotating assembly is lighter so it is more responsive.

slap a turbo on a 6.0 with forged pistons and rods and make more power than both engines for less money.
