There is a precharge sock that goes over the filter, but after a week i took it off because i didn't need it. The filter stays dry even in all the rain we had this past mounth.

Jerry is soo good at fielding questions

I don't know about road salt but I will say that the majority of people have not had issues with water when not using the "sock" that comes with the kit. I took my small filter off and replaced it with a 9" filter that comes on the LS1 kits and I don't have a sock now. As such I tried to floor it in high boost (12psi) in a VERY heavy rainstorm and I imediately got shut down From that point on the truck acted funny and almost like it was missing really bad but it was intermitent. Like maybe one miss in a 5min span. Turns out I sucked up a tons of water which sat in my intercooler and kept spraying the MAF.

I cleaned out all the water but I believe the damage was done. I had run a compression check a couple days before the flooding and they all checked out between 185-190psi. I did a compression check yesterday and I am at 185 on all but 2 cylinders which are at 160 and 140

I have not been racing and I even turned the meth up a little bit just to be safe with the cooler weather so I have a feeling I sucked up more water than was safe.

My point in this is that while most people have not had issues. There is a chance of it if you are stupid like me and run high boost in heavy rainfall. To keep this from happening buy the snorkel kit STS sells and run your sock in the really bad weather and you'll have zero issues as long as you dont try crossing rivers.

I'm not trying to scare any of you from the kit but I want you to know ANY dangers that exist. There are a few people with Prochargers and Vortechs that have had this problem and more than a couple who hydrolocked their motors so it's not just a rear mount issue.

Justin, i was looking at the pic of your truck and i noticed you have a short bed. Is your filter located were the cab and the bed meet. If it is that may be were you are getting water from. Notice in my pic that my turbo is mounted farther back towards the rear end because i have a long bed. That might be why i don't have any water issues.

I think they are located in the same spot. On my truck the filter is pretty far back. It's not up by the gap between the bed and cab. It's more like a little forward of the rear tire.

Like I said though, low boost was never an issue. I think it was the high boost after soaking the filter for 2 hours on the watterlogged freewaythat did it.

Actually Jerry, you are right.

I just washed the truck and my filter sits RIGTH under that gap and looking from the top of I can see about 3-4" of filter totally open to rain AND water dripping down from the window and bed.

The smaller filter that comes with the kit doesn't reach that far. I have a really long filter in it's place...

Glad I kept the little filter for winter

My Turbo is about 16" farther back than yours.
