Default STS and Cat Removal

Just wondering if anyone has dyno'ed or have track times or can feel a noticable difference when you removed the cats when using the sts turbo system? I want to do this on my truck, I'm hoping it will decrease lag a noticable amount even if it doesn't increase hp it would be worth it for me.
Lag is not bad now, but I just love getting into boost at half throttle and feeling the gobs of torque it makes.

I also like how quiet it is now, wondering how much louder it will be??

If I take it to a muffler shop, I'll have to make sure they don't use a torch on it right??? So chunks of metal doesn't go thru the turbo. I'm thinking a saw zaw or pipe cutting wrench would be better?

I noticed a difference with mine. Seat of the pants. You need to make sure they dont get anything in the exhaust when the do it. Make sure if they saw it off that they clean out the shaving before they weld it up. You will need a muffler after you remove them. It will be very loud without one. Almost unbearable.

With my cats gutted, the turbo spooled much faster and it pulled harder. It was really loud though. Once the muffler was on it increased the lag, but was still better than with the cats.

So if you remove the cats and gain, say, 10hp, you'll then have to add a muffler and lose, what, 10-15hp? Doesn't seem worth it unless you have a race-only truck. The noise would ruin the tiny gain in hp in my opinion.

Sounds to me like the gains are negligible at best.

On a stock cubed 6.0L, !cats + a race muffler sounds great, and doesn't throttle the turbo too much. You can also get a cutout for between the turbo and the muffler for those days when you must have the extra 3-5hp the race muffler steals from you

So if the race muffler steals 3-5hp, what would removing the cat do on something like HIS setup, gain 3-5hp? Then of course it would need to have a re-tune!

I just think it's a lot of work for little return. Kind of like my HP Tuner that gained 0 HP and 0 TQ on my "used to be" stock 6.0!

Look thru a staight thru muffler and then thru a cat and then ask if it is only a 3-5 hp gain.

Well in my case, I already have a 3" borla muffler mounted after the turbo and its super quiet right now, so if I remove the cats I should gain some hp, but what I'm really after is a faster spool up. Just curious and wanted to hear what others did. Later I do plan on a cutout for all out power.

Quicksiverado- thats exactly what I wanted to hear !! How loud is it now compared to cats and no muffler with a tailpipe?
