Default STREET truck cam question

Ok all... I am scraping my delusions of grandure with adding a s/c or turbo. Money is getting tighter by the day and I relize that this truck is going to be a daily driver STREET truck with no track time.

Ok to my question... I was looking at cams and reading the NUMEROUS threads here and still can figure out whats what.... All the answers keep dealing with F-bodies and such or trucks thats ee alot of track time. I need driveability, TQ and HP increase where it counts and thats about it.

I was looing at the Comp Cams XR259HR or the XR265HR cams. Does anyone run these??? Any other sugestions? I did a cam swap in my race car but that was a whole difrent ballgame. I know I will need new springs with any cam swap i do.

Thanks for any info

I was in the same boat you were while I was searching for a cam. I myself am running the Comp 265HR 212/218 .522/.529. Im happy with it thus far. Im sure Id be a lot happier if I had a tune to go with the cam. The swap is easy in these trucks. While I was in there, I went ahead and changed my oil pump, timing chain/gears, valve seals, front main seal, front cover seal, push rods and springs(need them for the increase in lift anyway). That XR259 would be nice and lopey though!

The cam you have.... does the truck "pull" when you punch it? Also did the MPG suffer from the swap?

I dont have a converter. But my heavy wheels are killing me. Plus my gears are contributing too. I can break them loose from a punch though. Once it reaches about 1800-2000RPM it really starts to rip! I could tell a slight decrease in MPG. But not near enough to say the cam was a bad idea.
