Default stock exhaust size??

what is the stock exhaust tubing diameter on a 2000 5.3??

looking to just put in a muffler or cutout....should i go with stock size inlets/outlets, or just have an exhaust shop fab a 3" In/Out into my exhaust??

also what muffler would some of you suggest...I have looked into Hooker Aerochambler, Dynomax Super Turbo, FlowMaster 40 Series, or just a cutout.

Thanks

Before the Y it's 2.5", after is 2.75" from what I understand.

Keep that stock 2.75" pipe to the muffler, it will flow better than a crush bent 3" pipe.

Well with those you suggested muff-wise you have a vast differences in sound...what are you wanting it to do?

looking for a deep mellow tone, but not obnoxiously loud....not like these rednecks w/ trucks that make u want to wish to be deaf...flow/hp gain isnt much of an issue....when i want the truck to go fast ill just spray it

anyone else wanna chime in w/ their opinion on the size?? i would like to keep the inlet/outlet same size, so the muffler shop doesnt have to expand anything.

Mine was factory dual 2 7/8" also, I kept my stock tubing and just had them expand my 2.5" Dynomax Bullets to fit the pipes

so i guess easiest thing to do is just buy a muffler and tell a shop "Put this...on there!"
probably gonna end up going with the hooker areochambler 2.5" In./Out.

i would like to go with the 3", but still havent gotten a solid answer to the stock piping being 3". I work for advance auto parts, and i can get the 2.5" In/out for around $60.....the 2.5" is actually in our inventory and is not a special order...for some weird reason the 3" would be special order w/ shipping charges applied ????

if i can get a solid answer that it IS 3".....i will go that route....not gonna do this for a while anyways.

ANOTHER ? - should i run a turndown before or after the axle???
