Probably is the belt slipping. You will notice SOTP in the upper rpm's with volant. I know your pain with the 3.42's. I am figuring out what to do. Thw W4Me tune woke the truck up quite a bit. Hpe this helps. Alot use cutouts here.

My new 2005 Silverado SS squeels the belt on the 1-2 WOT shift also. It's LOUD.
Sometimes it squeels it on the 2-3 shift too. My trans shifts pretty hard at WOT and I think that has something to do with the belt squeeling.
I think a CAI is good for about 10-15hp as a general rule. A good tune with raised shift points and the gears will help out pretty good also.
The truck motors respond to mods the same way as the LS1/6 does since they might as well be the same except for displacement and naming.

Had the same problem new belt fixed it. The old was cracked quite a bit and dry. Tune will make the biggest SOTP diff also gears will make a big difference and cutouts work well too. Swap out the muffler to with something to your liking and that iwll help out. Between a decent CAI, tune, exhaust and the gears you could drop a second in the 1/4 and probably gain 50rwhp with it and alot more drivability along with probably a 3-4 mpg gain.

1funz71 i see something bout using 4 lo at the track in your sig whats that all about i didnt think it would go past 35 or so in 4lo
i know alot about these lsx motors as i had a HC 90/90 WS6 that ran low 11s and made 448rwhp but i was just wondering if the same for the trucks
damn i wish GM had put the 4l80e in these 1500 5.3s
the 342s def do suck for a z71 crew cab from a dig let me tell you.....and towing sucks
my dads 120k mile 2002 yukon feels like it would obliterate me from any roll or dig
also the w4me tune where do you get this and how much does it help and how much $$

You shoulda kept the engine outta your car and put a stock one in it, then put it in your new truck.
I think the intermediate pipe is like 2 3/4" or something close, maybe 3".
We ALL wish GM had put the 80E in these trucks, the tranny builders are happy though.

You need a 3 inch cutout the pipe is 2.75 and the 3 will slip right over. The w4me tune is like 150 bucks they are a sponsor to the right. I personally prefer the neslon tune but it is more expensive.
