yep, look under those valve covers and see if anything is missing. just a word of advice - if your motor ever makes a bad sound like that, shut it down immediately and don't try to restart it until you fix the problem.

My 89 camaro would BANG really loud like that when the coil pack messed up. Does it sound like a 180 timing BANG or more like a metal on metal bang?

Ive got my money on a broken valve spring...sounds all too familiar to me lol good luck!

shet man thats wat happend to me when i was going to visit a girl of mine and then the next thing i hear is a big bang and it sounds like metal to metal and guess what i broke a rod...and the motor starts shakin and tries to idle but dies! so guess what its time for a 408 like everyone says...

Just came back, it is a spring that broke and the valve is broken in two and all the parts are stuck in the head...the piston has the side of the valve nailed in and the cylinder is marked pretty bad. I think I'll need to oversize but don't know how much.

how much oversize is needed for a 370 and for a 408 and what kind of piston or overhauled stuff I need?

I'd get ahold of Comp Cams first to see what they can do for ya! there is an active recall out for the springs you were running.

good luck and keep us posted on what they say, I for one am VERY interested. I just had a valve spring break just like yours but from another vendor and I would like to see how Comp handles this situation.
