i changed my dads oil the other day on his 2003 avalanche for the first time. why and the hell is the oil filter smaller than my 00. are all 03's like that or is it just the avalanches?

I picked my 03 up this summer and I thought the same thing. I switched to a PH59 - sits even/level with the oil pan - I would like to use one even larger - so if anyone knows of one larger/longer - I would use it - the PH53 is the same filter used on Neon's 2.0 4cly -
120 hp on a good day does not make sense to me - use the same filter on a 5.3 with 285 hp ?? - how could smaller be better ??

 

LS1s use the small filter and they have 300 rwhp!!!
