Default Silverado SS cooling

I dont know if this is the correct location but I will throw it in there.

Are the cooling for the Silverado SS trucks the same for other 1500 Silverados that use 34" rad and electric fans?

Also, why do some of the 4.8 and 5.3 use two different water pumps? A small opening and one with a larger opening?

The only water pumps differences I know of are the thermostat housing and associated thermostat size

one is considered "early" and one is "late" or updated. I think the switch year was 2002. I don't recall which is which. It's irrelevant if the housing matches the thermostat and those match the w/p. I don't think there is a noted performance increase either way

SS will have larger radiator

The SS has an Oil Cooler along with a Transmission Cooler. Other wise its the same core as the 05 up with electric fans.

CORE SIZE 34 IN X 18-1/2IN X 1-1/16IN

I have no idea if one is early or late. I think their needs to be a known reason why there are two pumps due to thermostats. Seems that GM would have a reason for those, has to be. They didn't just grab one out of a box and then then next engine get the other pump from another box. If that is the case. Why? That is dumb.

So, your saying that 05 and up non Silverado SS trucks, depending on options could have a oil cooler and or a transmission cooler?

One style of thermostat bottoms out when put into the wrong style of pump, and hangs open. Not sure if there's a problem the other way. Not sure which is early and which is late myself either.

Can't speak as to "dumb" in this matter.

AFAICR the SS radiator is the same as the ones in 2500s w/ LQ4 including Silverado, Escalades & Denalis w/ LQ9, etc. All of those got oil coolers too. Is not the SS a LQ9 as well? The rad itself doesn't care whether the vehicle came with, or has since been changed to, electric or belt-drive fans. AFAIAA the earlier LQ4s in fact mostly got belt-drive, and the others got electric after 05 or so. Maybe the LQ4 did too, I'm not sure, never really paid attention. Not really an issue that concerns the matter at hand regardless.

If it had a 6.0 from the factory, it had an oil cooler in the radiator.

Okay, thanks.

Based on that.

If your transplanting a Lq9 into a 03 Silverado, then your best bet is to go with the Lq9 radiator out of a SS, since the LQ9 has a provisions for a oil cooler. Correct?

That would be the only difference in the Lq9 radiator and and a radiator for a 5.3 Silverado?

Depends if you are going to run the oil cooler or not. If not a standard 34 inch radiator whould be fine. I dont know if there is a cost difference but why have the extra cooler if your not going to use it, it would just be another potential leak point.
