i am looking at a built 4l80e tranny right now. i can get one built for 2895 with a 2800 stall. its 3145.00 for it with hardened output and input shafts. im really leaning towards this route. i might go with the one below that one for money reasons. that is a stg 3. all i think i will need is a stg 2. and as soon as the heads get here they are for sale. so we will see.
hey to all that have done the swap. how does it feel losing some power. i am told it takes almost 80hp to turn a 80e and only 25hp to turn a 60e. have you felt a big difference? does it work smoother than the 60e or is it not much difference besides just the gear ratio's/

The trans is a beast. It's a heavy trans all around, heavy internals, heavy case, heacy converter, etc. The trans is a lot smoother than the 60e though, but that's all in the way it works.
If it were me .. I would get a stock one and maybe put a shift kit in it. Once you get that, get it in and beat the snot out of it. After it breaks, THEN worry about getting one built. I have a feeling you won't break one for a loooong while. I'm still running a stock one, no shift kit or anything, just a stock trans with a 3000 converter. It's held up fine for now and has shown no signs of wear or of going out anytime soon.
I did raise the line pressure up a little bit in EDIT though.
If you do the 80e swap, you will have to get a th400 style yoke anyways.

Where did you find that at? Did you pull the pump off the front and dig into it or just take the tailshaft housing off?
Looking at the pictures a little closer ... that looks like the case that broke. If you pull the pump out, drop the pan and pull the pin that holds the band in place out, pull the input drum assembly out, remove the snap ring that's in the reaction shell, pull that part out, that will be what's broke I believe. In other words, its the back of the case that holds where the reaction sehll lives I guess. The sprag is inside the reaction shell.
I may have some of the parts named wrong.
