I am not one to swim upstream usually. When I installed my PI it to had 5/16" clearance. I did not shim it. I would not have done so if my stock converter did not also have 5/16" clearance.

Oh wow now I dont feel like something is really wrong, that is a pretty large clearance, and that is what I am having right now with the PI TC. I guess I should be alright if I shim it a little and then shoot a prayer.

It is just that when I saw 5/16" I was like holy crap that is huge all other clearances that I have seen are a lot smaller than that.

I just measured the crank spacer and it's ~.415" thick.

What flexplate are you using? Is it the one from the 4L60E? If so you'll need one from a 4L80E truck and you'll have to use the crank spacer with it. That combo will give you the right clearance with the PI converter. The crank spacer goes between the crank and 4L80E flexplate also not like in the picture in this thread shows.

Thanks for measuring that, the Flexplate is from an 80e tranny, I got a 6.0 and the tranny as one piece. The thing is that I never measured the spacing from the flywheel to the converter before I seperated them, therefore when I went to install the new converter it was seperated by 5/16. This was to much. And plus the PI converter was 1/8 shorter than the stock. PI said just shim it 1/8 and you will get a 3/16 clearance which is the maximium. So hopefully it will be ok.

But today I finally started the truck and it sounds nice could not get it to idle by itself cause of the cam but it just needs some tuning.

The funny thing is that I did not tighten one of the tranny cooler lines and within minutes me and my dad were swimming in a puddle of tranny fluid in the garage. It just took a long time to get cleaned up.

I tried putting my spacer in the middle of the flex plate the crank. Two problems happend, one the spacer flange would not slide in the flex plate or the crank, and two the starter would also not reach the flex plate ring gear. I'm running a 5.3 flex plate with the 6.0 and 80e so maybe that is what so different about it?

The 5.3L flexplate is "curved" and the 6.0L/4L80E flexplate is basically flat so it needs a spacer.

Did you have to use shims anywhere with that 5.3L plate/80e combo?

No, It fits very nice. Sean at Speed Engineering got me the spacer, and then 80E Art Carr stall was made with a 3 bolt patern. (sp) even using the 5.3 flex plate on the 6.0, it fits great.

That's good info to know. The 5.3L flexplate and PI 80e converter wouldn't work like that.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing when I did my tranny swap.
