Default Removing MOTOR HELP!!

Hey guys I am taking out my old engine.

I am swapping the motor and tranny (5.3 with a 60E tranny) and putting in a 6.0 with a an 80E. The question has anyone taken out the motor and tranny all as one piece from the engine bay. I ran into a problem where it seems that I have to take off the intake in order for it to clear that top lip on the firewall, since the engine is already sitting furthure back than old style engine bays. Who has done this.

Questions :
1) Do I have to take the intake off.
2) Will it actually come out with the 60E and will the 80E go in.( reason I ask is cause it is longer thanks.

Dont think it will clear cause when I was doing some measuremets for the motor swap that never was the tranny would have to be dropped or you would have to take out all the radiator crap its just easier to drop the tranny it will only take like an hour and a half to dorp not that big of a deal.

Hell. Thats how I was gonna pull mine out. Take the intake off and give her hell. Nobody thinks it will come out that way? Is it because of the tailshaft hitting the ground as the motor is tilted upwards? Couldnt the truck just be jacked up in the front to allow more room under the truck?

I REALLY DON'T THINK IT WILL UNLESS U PULL THE FRONT RAD. SUPPORT OFF THEN IT WILL COME OUT ALL IN ONE.

Well guys it can be done. The entire motor and the tranny came out in one piece, The intake did have to come off but other than that it came out. I will post another thread later at the end explaining what I did. But to answer a couple of questions:

1) when I pulled out the motor and the tranny I bolted it in a way that when I pulled it up with the cherry picker the tranny and motor would be pointing in a 65 degree direction.

2) at first the problem that I ran into was that the oil pan was hitting that crossmember below the oil pan and would not let the motor slide forward. All I did was jack up the tranny and pulled the motor forward a little and I got it past that point. Then I jacked the motor all the way as high as it can go. We had to the lift the tranny with our hands just so that it could budge over the that top part where the radiator goes and Walah.

3) The the tail shaft like 99silverado mentioned will not hit the ground. Second my truck is lowered about 3"5" and the cherry picker bearly lifted the motor high enough that it allowed it to go over the radiator area. So it might not work if you cant get the picker to go that high. but other than that it worked.

If i dont make sense I will fix it tommorrow, I am heading to bed.

I think I am going to try and drop it in the same way. Dont know I will figure that out tommorrow.

Dude, seriously. Just ask! I have the "carny" hands and Bryce can bench press a Buick. You sound like you almost killed yourself with that cherry picker.

FWIW, the engine crossmember can easily be removed. Just disconnect the rack and pinion and the remaining 4 bolts. That might make your install go a little easier.

I wish I could've seen how much that cherry picker was deflecting with the huge moment you applied.
