Default removing the foam between the intake and motor

Has anyone ever taken the piece of foam that comes between the intake and motor out. Just wondering, it seems to me that if it is removed that it would allow air to flow alot better and cooling the intake down some similar to the air gap intakes that you see on alot of high performance engines making more power.

took mine out and never had any problems. i think it is more for keeping crap out from under the intake, namely in the two knock sensor holes.
