Hey guys I'm new to the site,But not new to the exhaust world..I've been through a lot of exhaust setups on trucks, and I can tell you that if you want a clean crispy sounding exhaust you must run tailpipes and no bigger than 2.5 in size because it tightens up the sound because volume of air exiting.Or if you want the flutter sound go 3",And if you want that high pitch crackling at high RPM to go away you must run Deltaflow mufflers or hiflow cats,But everybody's different sum want noise and sum don't,I personally don't like to have to crank my stereo to drown out the droning coming from my exhaust,But anyway I'm getting ready to do new system on the 05 Silvy 5.3 with nice lumpy bumpstick, longtubes,Xpipe, elec cutout's,prolly Deltaflows, out the back tucked up in the corner by the bumper 1st gen camaro style, not every muffler shop can do this cause it's time consuming so I'm lucky to have one that can,the sound and look is TIGHT AS F@#$% to say the least,But when it's finish'd I'll post pic's and sound byte's,So good luck on your choices........And I'm loving this site.. lot of good imfo.........

I just put on hookers aerochamber 3 inch in / dual 2.5 in out and dumped it.

I thought it would be louder.... at idle its very deep sounding but not loud, but when driving around its not very loud.

I guess thats because its a 22" case length

I think one of the reasons that people are disappointed when they throw a muffler on, then dump it is our engines, at least the 5.3l are pretty quiet to begin with, especially with stock cats and all. I have found that going from my 02 stock Y with round cats, to an 07 Y with the larger oval cats my exhaust did get a little louder. Now, before i put the spintech on, i had stock exhaust with no muffler, just a pipe welded on to replace the muffler, and it sounded awesome. Now i have a 3" after the stock Y with a spintech dumped and really am disappointed with the spintech. I doubt going to a 3" really gains any substantial power, unless probably your running high HP numbers. I think i am going to go back to 2.5" maybe with a hooker or nothing going out in front of passenger tire.

FWIW, a factory 5.3L sounds different than 6L. They run the exhaust in 2 diff. ways on a 5.3 vs 6L.

Before I put on my Corsa, I talked to a rep @ a show. I said I wanted the big Hydroformed Tip not the 1 that comes w/ mine. The Hydro is of a larger size.
They said the twin tip is tuned for my application. So I left it off.
To run the other tip, I'd have to buy, adapt to size & weld. B.S.
