Default recommended mods for 5.3 z71

What are some recommended mods that wont break the bank? I would like to increase engine power.

Also ... I am running BFgoodrich Long Trail t/a's (LT265/75r16) and i cant find a recommended PSI?

Any ideas?

Thanks

i don't think there are many cheap mods for these trucks, but here's a small list that are on the lower end of being expensive:

Hypertech power programmer-$330
Cold air injection kits-$250+
160* t-stat-$50
Headers-$350+
Cat back exhaust-$350+
8mm plug wires-$90+
MAF sensors-$150+

these are a couple that i can think of and the prices are ball park figures i've seen. there are a few free mods that can help preformance but not necessarily increase power:

EGR tube trim for less turbulence in the intake
MAF sensor de-screening
Throttle body coolant by-pass

Hope this helps, there may be more that the rest of the guys here can probably help you with also. good luck with the mods.

1. hypertech is pretty good, ls1edit is better but expensive and a little less user-friendly
2.UPD intake (link at top of Performance Forum) seems to be the best out right now and its cheaper than the K&N
3.exaust. just working from the cats back will help but long tube or mid-length headers will really help (but be prepared to pay for those). i'm sure someone will argue but shorties haven't shown much gains.
4.stock plug wires are pretty good but i've heard they make the truck idle smoother
5.be careful with MAF and descreening the stock MAF. they can provide good gains on basically stock motors but as you mod more and more they will lean the motor out too much. also i don't know about using the hypertech AND a MAF (they both lean out the engine, which could create a problem)
5. a 160* t-stat will help but electric fans will be much better if you can find a set cheap.

as for the free mods:
1) TB bypass- IMO waste of time. it might add a whole .5 horsepower
2)EGR trim- don't know, my truck doesn't have EGR

thats about all i can say. hope i helped
