When installing my cam, oil pump, and timing chain ran into an issue when using the supplied spacers for the ported ls6 oil pump. found that when using the spacers the timing chain/front cover would not bolt on, it would hit the oil pump. When took the spacers out, the cover fit good but the timing chain is VERY VERY close to the oil pump now. Is this normal? how are you guys installing ported ls6 oil pumps with double roller timing chains and getting the covers to fit without hitting the oil pump? when using the spacers, the cover WILL NOT fit on correctly. even tried to "trim" the oil pump a little, its just not going to happen. for now just put it back together without the oil pump spacers and moved on. i would like some reassurance though that everything is going to be ok or do i need to change something? i'm using a crane double roller timing chain set, and a SLP ported ls6 oil pump. thanks.

on my 5.3 setup i skipped the spacers. everything was fine. I actually toasted a cover trying to grind a spot in the cover. LOL You'll think you hear **** for a few weeks after it's running, but you should be golden. IMO.

I had to grind on the front cover too. What I did was put a few dabs of white grease to the spots on the oil pump that looked like they would hit the cover, I then put the cover back on and pulled it off to see the white grease on the inside of the front cover were it was touching the oil pump, I then grinded those spots and was all good on the test fit.

what this worrying fool is talking about is the SLP pump already had the added on material to make up for the difference of the shims that come with a double roller timing chain. if josh would of used a ported stock casting pump then spacers are needed but an aftermarket casting like the SLP pump it has extra material the same thickness of a shim to make up the difference
as for grinding there isnt a possiblity to grind anymore off. see even when installing the pickup tube i noticed something odd. i have installed a few rollmaster double chains along with ported pumps but all pumps been stock casting. and all had no issues but everything is fine and josh needs to relax for once in his life!!!!!!!!!!
personally i wouldnt of wasted the money on the SLP pump since you can port a 6.0 pump and it will be teh same as the SLP minus the different casting difference
