Those of you that own a 2003 Chevy with the 5.3. Do you have any "lag" or "play" in your gas pedal? Meaning, when you take off from a stop and hit the gas, does your pedal feel like it has slack in it before the truck reacts to it? Reason I ask is a buddy of mine at work just recently bought an '03 5.3 ECSB that is having this issue. My dad has an '02 and his doesn't do it at all. I have been told that the '03's have the electronic throttle and I am wondering if that is the cause. And if so, is there a way to correct or modify it to where it reacts more quickly? He has had it to a local dealer and they say it is normal, but I would like to hear your opinions on it. Thanks.

I have an 03 5.3 but havent really noticed such a problem at leaset not with the gas pedal. I think what your buddy may be seeing is torque management OR some malfunction.
If I tap the gas on my truck there is immediate response. If this is not the case with your friends truck he should have the truck looked at by the dealer.

With my 03 SS, I have much more throttle response than my 99 5.3 ever had. It took me several days to get used to it. Every little bump I hit would pass on to the throttle and make me lurch along.
I was worried that the electric throttle would not be crisp or responsive. I cant tell the difference over my manual throttle on my last truck.

Mine just seems to not run as well when I floor it. If I push on the gas with a nice speed, it rips the tires, but if I just mash it, its like it gets too much fuel, and can't burn it or something. Otherwise the pedal feels instant on response.
